Testimonials hold great power- it’s more than just nice words from a customer; they provide social proof that your business provides a good service or product. So what makes for a good testimonial?

Getting testimonials that will work for your business

When asking for a testimonial, don’t just email your customer “can you send me a testimonial?” You’ll need to ask leading questions that will prompt the customer to leave a glowing and useful testimonial. For instance, asking questions such as, “how much money did you save with our product?” and “What’s the biggest benefit you’ve seen from using our product?” These questions are perfect because it allows the customer to think about their experience, and helps them for form their testimonial.

How to generate testimonials

As we mentioned, directly emailing customers asking for a tesimonial is a great way to build up your client reviews, but if you have a high turnover sales business, this may not be ideal.

Platforms such as Truspilot enable businesses to automate their testimonial requests. This is currently a paid for service, but it’s money well spent if you are serious about gathering client reviews.

The most important thing to consider in your testimonial ‘strategy’ is timing. Make sure you’re requesting your review or testimonial when the experience is still fresh in the mind of your customer- but give them time to enjoy your product or service first!

Why are they so important?

Customers are more likely to buy a product if it provides us with social proof than if it does not. Word of mouth is one of the most effective ways to advertise your business, and that’s why testimonials are so critical.

According to BigCommerce, 72% of customers said that good reviews make them trust a business more and 88% of customers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations!

Create bespoke testimonial graphics

Once your customer has written you a fantastic testimonial, you’re going to want to tell the world. Of course, you will want to publish it everywhere, including your website and social media accounts.

It may seem easy enough to simply screenshot the testimonial or copy and paste the text into a post- but that isn’t the best representation of your brand.

At Command Creative, we create bepoke testimonial graphics for our clients to use across their social media channels. These greatly increase the engagement of your post as they stand out much more than a standard text post. They can also be animated which really grabs a user’s attention.
